Information Bulletin 99-1, September 1999. p. 42 )〕 == Background == In 1846, Daugherty opened a store in Rosendale for "Fay & Collins", the first retail business in the two-year-old settlement.〔("History of the Town" in ''Comprehensive Land Use Development Plan: Town of Rosendale, Fond du Lac County, Wisconsin'' p. 2 )〕 In 1847, "Daugherty & Woodruff" opened the first hotel in Rosendale, in the portion of the Town of Rosendale which is now Springvale. In 1848, upon Wisconsin becoming a state, he was elected a member of the first Fond du Lac County board of supervisors.〔Glaze, A. T.
